UNCLE New Cross is situated on a park in a quiet back street of this buzzing up-and-coming neighbourhood. It’s the perfect spot for families, fledgling creatives and young professionals alike with Telegraph Hill Park, Goldsmiths University and two overground train stations with excellent links to central London all within 10 minutes walking distance. An interesting mix of hip cafés and restaurants, music pubs and leftish debate, make this growing South-East London neighbourhood the perfect place for never-ending exploration.
UNCLE New Cross is perfectly positioned so you can make the most out of this South-East London gem.
We can’t not mention the parks. For your morning run, there’s the lovely Fordham Park literally around the corner. For the best views of London (seriously) and a hit of tennis, a 15 minute stroll will find you in Telegraph Hill Park. And, for idyllic London weekend picnics, in only a 15 minute bike ride you’ll reach the famous Greenwich Park.
For serious music fans, stroll two streets over to New Cross Inn for one of London’s best small music venues. Every Tuesday is open mic night, welcoming any kind of live act from big bands to spoken word and everything in-between. The legendary Amersham Arms, a 5 minute walk down the road, is a great place to check out rising comedy and music stars. You can also catch some experimental comedy at Out Of The Brew just around the block. This hip little coffee shop hosts events for all persuasions – try one of its evening supper clubs or art exhibitions.
And, for the yogis, the Iyengar Institute of South London is only a 5 minute bike ride away.
There’s no shortage of trendy eateries and drinking holes all within walking distance of UNCLE New Cross.
The Red Lion is our very own onsite café slash wine bar, it’s the perfect place to bump into neighbours. If one latte in the morning’s not enough, walk around the corner to Birdie Num Nums. On Friday and Saturday nights this delightful café is transformed into Little Nan’s, a kitsch cocktail bar that will satisfy the hipster in you.
For one of South London’s best budget eats, The London Particular offers healthy breakfast, brunch and lunch options. Otherwise, Chinwag on Lewisham Way is a cool eatery that serves up a killer English Breakfast and mammoth-sized burgers.
We love Paranhodu for quick and easy Korean in a relaxed setting. The chicken dumplings and kimchi will blow you away. We also love The Rosemary, an easy 10 minute walk down New Cross Road, this charming (and cheap!) organic Hungarian restaurant is a local secret.
The local line of pubs include London favourite’s like New Cross House (try their yummy wood-fired pizzas) and the legendary Amersham Arms.
For bookshop lovers, The Word on New Cross Road is a new local favourite and an absolute must-visit. You can also pop into Prangsta Costumiers next door to pick up everything you need to dress as a Lewis Carroll creation or Victorian circus performer. That’s Halloween sorted.
Our residence is conveniently located smack in the middle of New Cross and New Cross Gate Zone 2 train stations. From New Cross Gate station there’s a regular London Bridge service that will get you there in 10 minutes, with trains also running to Victoria. The London Overground lines is just two stops from Canada Water and runs north to Hoxton and Islington, as well as south to Crystal Palace and Croyden. Hop on a train from New Cross Station direct to Shoreditch and stations close to the City and Canary Wharf.
If the rail is not your thing, then jump on one of the frequent bus routes to get you easily in and out of Central London.
UNCLE New Cross is less than a 10 minute bike ride away from fantastic primary and secondary schools including Myatt Garden Primary, Lucas Vale Primary, Edmund Waller Primary, Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College, Addey and Stanhope, St. Thomas the Apostle College and Deptford Green. For art students of Goldsmiths, a quick 10 minute walk will get you to school which means you’ll never have to get up early for lectures again!
