If you work in the city, there are plenty of ways to get around, and it’s surrounded by all the amenities and attractions the city has to offer.

If you enjoy living in an area steeped in culture and creativity, with quick and easy access to the rest of London, you really can’t go wrong with Deptford.

Restaurants in Deptford

Whether you’re looking for a romantic night out, to experience mouthwatering international flavours or grab something on the go at Deptford Market Yard, there are loads of options for food in Deptford.

Things to do in Deptford

Whether you’re looking to indulge in some culture, creativity or relaxation, there are plenty of things to do in Deptford.

You can shop ‘til you drop at Deptford Market and grab yourself a bargain. Then you can take a stroll along the River Thames and check out the iconic Deptford Dockyard and Cutty Sark. You could then mosey down to Deptford Creek for a spot of wildlife watching, then check out some of the historic sites, like Deptford Town Hall and the Greenwich Maritime Museum.

To take in a spot of art and culture, you could visit Deptford Does Art or Art Hub Studios, then enjoy a drink while watching live music or comedy at Matchstick Piehouse.

Just a quick tube or bus ride away (or even a walk if you have the inclination) is everything the city of London has to offer, so you’re never too far from something fun, exciting or thrilling.

Transport links from Deptford

Deptford is nestled in the heart of London and has fantastic transport links so you can get across the city with ease.

By train, you could catch a National Rail service from Deptford station, or a DLR train from Deptford Bridge, perfect for commuters heading to Canary Wharf, the City of London or beyond.

If you prefer going by bus, multiple routes pass through Deptford, such as the 47, 188, 199, 225, 453 and more.

If you drive, you can access Deptford by using the A2 or A200. There are also plenty of options when it comes to walking, but the nearest Thames crossing is an hour or so on foot. If travelling by boat is more your thing, nearby Greenwich Pier has regular river buses and even Uber Boats.

Open spaces in the area

While Deptford itself isn’t home to many green spaces, there are plenty within a short distance. So if you enjoy getting out and about and immersing yourself in nature, you don’t need to worry.

Despite the name, Deptford Park is just a teeny bit north west of Deptford, and a little further is Southwark Park and Stave Hill Ecological Park. To the east is the world-famous Greenwich Park which is within walking distance, and has huge open spaces, woodland and the planetarium so you can partake in some stargazing.

Is Deptford right for you?

Deptford is a fantastic area that is currently part way through a development project that is bringing investment and opportunities. It’s incredibly well connected and has a wonderful selection of bars and restaurants, and places to immerse yourself in local and international cultures. If you work in Canary Wharf or the surrounding area, the DLR will take you right there and back again, making it perfect for busy professionals. It also has the bonus of being 25% cheaper to live in Deptford than it is in nearby Greenwich. So, if you think Deptford ticks a lot of your boxes, we suggest checking it out now before everyone else has the same idea.
