Deptford is an area of southeast London that’s often overlooked, especially when it comes to finding a great place to grab a bite to eat. However, in recent years Deptford has turned a corner and is now home to a huge range of incredible restaurants, from street food favourites, to fine dining.

So, if you live in Deptford, food is never going to be too far away. In this guide, we’re going to outline some of our favourite restaurants in the area and help you find some delicious grub.

Living in the Deptford area

Deptford is seen as the up-and-coming area of London, nestled right on the banks of the River Thames in southeast London. It’s well-connected thanks to a range of rail and bus stations and stops and has an eclectic and diverse community. There’s also a vibrant music scene and plenty of green spaces so you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s also a more affordable area London, with house prices around 27% cheaper than they are in nearby Greenwich.

The top restaurants In Deptford

One of the most exciting things about Deptford is how it’s fast becoming one of the must-go places for international food and flavours. With options including Caribbean, Vietnamese, Mexican and more, you’re guaranteed to find food that tickles your taste buds. Below is just a selection of the best Deptford restaurants.

Marcella

For some incredible Italian flavours cooked by the same team from the renowned Artusi restaurant in Peckham, Marcella on Deptford High Street prides itself on simple but fantastic food. The menu changes regularly and it offers a small but refined selection of dishes, like pasta and fresh fish, that are cooked with love, care and attention. If you’re after any old pizza joint then Marcella isn’t that, but you’re guaranteed incredible flavours and service, meaning you’ll have a fabulous experience.

Good Vibez Jerk Centre

For some authentic Caribbean flavours, Good Vibez Jerk Centre on Deptford High Street offers a huge range of comfort food favourites that are delicious and warming. Their famous homemade jerk sauce smacks you around the face and the goat curry is rich and moreish. There are a few tables, but it’s predominantly a takeaway so it’s a great way to eat real home-cooked Caribbean food at home.

Isla Ray

For a spot that’s absolutely bursting with character, you can’t go wrong with Isla Ray. From the moment you walk in through the door, you’re hit by tropical vibes, both from the tempting aromas and the quirky decor. And the food! Oh, the food. From the wonderful breakfast options to the mouthwatering burgers, you’re in for a treat. Plus, it’s also reasonably priced, making it a win-win.

Taca Tacos

Taca Tacos on Deptford Market Yard might be small and unassuming on the outside, but it’s absolutely worth it. The crowds enjoying incredible Mexican dishes on the outside seating should be a testament to that. As the name suggests, they specialise in tacos, but that doesn’t mean there are only a couple of things to choose from – the menu’s huge. One of our favourites is the beef birria quesataco, which is deliciously meaty and cheesy and one is never enough (and neither are five, to be honest).

Arks of Deptford

Arks of Deptford, located on Deptford Broadway, is the place to go if you’re looking for feel-good comfort food. There are tacos, wings, nachos, burgers, hotdogs… even just the thought of the food is making our mouths water. And to wash it down, there’s a menu filled with creative seasonal cocktails that will keep you going back again and again.

Jerk Yard

For some no-nonsense Caribbean flavours, Jerk Yard is small in size but massive in authentic flavour. The menu is small but refined, only offering a handful of dishes – but they know exactly what their customers want. You can get jerk chicken and chips, jerk sandwiches, jerk salads… all for less than a tenner – perfect for a tasty but filling lunch on a budget.

Eat Vietnam

For a fantastic taste of Vietnam, Eat Vietnam on Evelyn Street is a family-run restaurant with two locations side by side, with each offering unique dishes. And where do we start for recommendations? You could choose a big bowl of noodles, hot and spicy soup, classic pho… you really will be spoilt for choice.

Buster Mantis

Buster Mantis on Resolution Way is a brilliant spot that’s part cocktail bar, part Jamaican-inspired restaurant. The main menu is small but delicious, with an added bonus of a dedicated Sunday menu. And if you pop in on Thursdays they offer a selection of dishes for £6, so you can eat incredibly well but for next to nothing.
