The Best Cafes in Colindale

Looking for a cosy spot for a leisurely brunch? Or a place to grab a quick coffee on your commute? Maybe you’ve just moved into an UNCLE apartment in Colindale and want to know where the locals go. Well, we’ve listed our favourite cafes in Colindale below, all of which deserve a spot on your radar.

The go-to spots for coffee in Colindale

Fluffy & Tasty Pastry

At Fluffy & Tasty, they really do live up to their name. The smell of fresh baking hits you as soon as you step inside. Expect buttery croissants, baguettes straight from the oven, and danishes bursting with berry compote. A flaky pastry with a frothy cappuccino is a combo that’s pretty hard to beat. And if you’re into people-watching, their big front windows are perfect for a chilled-out perch.

Frankie's Cafe & Sandwich Bar

Take a stroll down Edgware Road and you’ll find this proper local gem. At Frankie’s Cafe, the food is freshly cooked and the portions are generous enough to fill you up ‘til dinner. You can tuck into a doorstep sandwich, comforting jacket potato or classic brunch plate, but our favourite is their Halloumi Breakfast. Pair it with a flat white or freshly squeezed orange juice, and you’ll see why this place is so popular. It’s warm, unpretentious, and perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Brews & Views

Set within Montrose Playing Fields, Brews & Views brings nature to your coffee break. Its windows look out onto tall trees and green lawns, so you can sip your latte surrounded by calm. Inside, lovely plants and wooden accents make it feel bright and earthy. The menu focuses on the brunchy – think artisanal pastries, comforting shakshuka, and (our top pick) Turkish eggs drizzled with chilli oil and a velvety yoghurt-and-dill sauce. The natural light streaming in makes Brews & Views feel all the more inviting.

ITJL

Sitting on Charcot Road, ITJL is both a cafe and restaurant, serving everything from breakfast through to dinner. The mornings are the best time to go, with must-haves like a full English, bagels with smoked salmon and avo, and toasted sandwiches with egg and grilled halloumi. You can even opt for unlimited filter coffee with some dishes (naughty but sometimes necessary!). Inside, the space is sleek yet welcoming, with cushioned seating and warm wooden tones that make you want to stay all day.

Cafe Anglais

Cafe Anglais adds a touch of continental polish to Colindale’s cafe scene. The décor blends soft lighting with vintage touches – perfect for reading the weekend paper or catching up with a friend. Menu-wise, our favourite is the Avocado Florentine: English muffins topped with poached eggs, spinach, avo and hollandaise sauce. Or if you’re craving something sweet, we recommend the buttermilk pancakes with Greek yoghurt and fresh berries. Yum!

Chaii & Spice

With its spiced drinks and street-food snacks, Chaii & Spice offers a warm, aromatic escape. Their signature drink is fragrant chai infused with rose, cardamom and masala mix. Food-wise, take your pick from delicious bun kebabs, samosas with a kick of heat, and aloo paratha (pan-fried flatbread filled with seasoned mashed potatoes). The cosy décor – patterned tiles, warm lighting and jars of spices lining the shelves – makes it lovely and welcoming. If you’re after comfort and flavour in equal measure, this is the place.

The Whale Tea Bakery

Step into The Whale Tea and you’ll be greeted by the gorgeous smell of treats baking in the back. Almost everything here is freshly made on site – from the pistachio croissants to the pretty macarons. They specialise in Asian teas with exciting names (lava milk, wintermelon, sweetie potato, summer lime green). The floral wallpaper, soft lighting and pastel décor make it feel like the kind of place where time slows down. And the mismatched crockery makes it feel like home.

Cafe ChiBo

Cafe ChiBo has that local-favourite charm that’s hard to emulate. Fancy something filling? We recommend the Halal beef burger filled with cheese, mushrooms and zingy house dressing. Or if you’re after something lighter, we love the vegetarian halloumi salad with pomegranate dressing. With soft music, framed prints and lush plants, the space is unfussy yet inviting. It’s the kind of place where the barista remembers your order after one or two visits.

Sunny Hill Cafe

Bright, breezy and aptly named, Sunny Hill Cafe lives up to expectations. Large windows flood the space with natural light, which bounces off pale walls and pops of greenery. On the menu, you’ll find classics like eggs Benedict and Middle Eastern dishes such as their falafel mezze platter. Sunny Hill is the perfect brunch spot to ease into the weekend.

Cloud 7

This is the kind of place that makes you want to take a photo before you eat. At Cloud 7, the décor is all sleek whites, hanging pendant lights and pretty greenery – stylish yet welcoming. The way the sunlight filters through the big windows gives everything a soft, warm glow. The menu’s just as enticing too, with traditional shakshuka, halal mezzes, burrata with home-made pesto… And the delicious drinks range from fresh smoothies to rose chai latte. Dreamy!

Pros and cons of living in London

Opinions on the country’s capital and the people who live there seem to waver depending on where you come from - type ‘why do Londoners’ into Google and your query will be finished with suggestions such as ‘walk so fast’ (they have places to be), ‘call a watch a kettle’ (Cockney rhyming slang), or ‘hate the north’ (you’ll have to be more specific). But, home to over 9 million people, there’s clearly something about London that keeps people flocking to it - more people move to London annually than move out of it.
