The Location

You’re hard pressed to find a better connected spot in London than at UNCLE Elephant & Castle. Our incredible inner-city location is situated only a 2 ½ minutes walk from the Zone 1 & 2 Tube station, giving you access to both the Bakerloo and Northern lines. The area is also a hub for busses with routes covering most of central London. Then there’s the unparalleled proximity to Waterloo, Borough Market, London Bridge and the South Bank.

What about Elephant & Castle itself? Well, a $3billion redevelopment project has brought a fresh vibrant energy and new creativity to the neighbourhood found in places like The Artworks (think shipping containers housing yoga studios, hip cafés, and vintage clothes shops), the current development of Elephant Park and the high-street shopping regeneration of Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre. This along with lovely pubs, hip little eateries, incredibly good schools and a thriving community spirit means Elephant & Castle is quickly becoming London’s not-so hidden inner-city gem.

‘The Elephant’s’ inner-city location puts you right in the middle of all the action. For the club goers, London’s iconic Ministry of Sound is only a 10 minute walk and you can even pop into Corsica Studios – one of the few true late-night spots left in London –  to check out who’s playing on the way.

Next door to Ministry, there’s Southwark Playhouse, a leading London theatre showcasing work by emerging artists (it’s got a pretty kickarse bar too). Along with Backyard Cinema, arguably one of London’s best and most unique cinema experiences. For the genuine movie buffs, London’s Cinema Museum is just around the corner.

For the best of London living, keep an eye on events happening throughout the year in Pullens Yards – a series of artists’ studios nestled within cobblestoned streets under 10 minutes walk from our front door. And, if you’re a creative, don’t forget to check out Hotel Elephant for arts, culture and a great co-working space.

UNCLE Elephant & Castle puts you within easy walking distance to the neighbourhoods’ eclectic range of food and drink options. Mercato Metropolitano, a refurbished paper factory turned Italian-inspired food markets (just 10 minutes up the road) is one of our favourite spots to grab a bite. La Bodeguita around the corner is a must-visit for a deli, grocery store and restaurant bringing you authentic Latin American food.

For a feed and a pint, The Old Red Lion just down the road looks like a proper old fashion boozer, but inside is a lovely hip pub serving up great food, beer and wine. Otherwise, we recommend the historic Elephant & Castle or head up to The Libertine for stone-baked pizzas, chilled beer and cosy vibes.

If you’re into cheap and cheerful eats then a 10 minute walk will get you to The Artworks, a trendy development of repurposed shipping containers, offering joints like Love Fresh Vietnamese, Spark Juices and The Athenian (£5.50 souvlaki wraps!). For a solid latte and bite, you can always pop down to our residence café for your early morning espresso. (Opening 2018).

Our close proximity to an abundance of public transport options easily connects you with the best of London’s shopping destinations. While the infamous and soon-to-be redeveloped Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre is a 5 minute walk away offering a range of different independent retailers along with supermarkets including Tesco, Iceland Foods and Sainsbury’s.

A plethora of public transport options is available to our residents at UNCLE Elephant & Castle. The Zone 1 and 2 underground station is only a 2 ½ minute walk from your front door, giving you access to both the Bakerloo and Northern lines. There is also a train station with services up to St Albans and Luton, and down to Sutton in Surrey and Sevenoaks in Kent. The local bus routes cover most of central London to ensure you always have an easy way home after a night out.
